The first question often is
Why do you have a charity at an event like RingCon at all?
It all started at the first RingCon in 2002 already: part of the proceeds of the auction went to the german SOS-children´s villages. Mark Ferguson and Craig Parker donated their part of the proceeds 100% to the starship foundation in Auckland.
Kerstin came up with the idea "if every vistor only gives 1,- Euro we can do so much with that". She walked around with a collecting box at RingCon 2003 and managed to raise 300,- Euro for starship.
In 2004 she asked me to help her with the charity and a homepage. At the same time Lydia started working on her cookbook which we then integrated into the charity. We became the "charity at con" ......
At RingCon 2004 we had our first booth together with the information people right at the entrance of the hotel, the auction items were in a seperate room upstairs. The first charity auction was a hugh success and we raised 3615,- Euros. (on the "foundations" page you can read what we do with the money)
RingCon 2005 brought many new friends and sponsors who donated marvellous items for the awesome auction. It also was the first time we had a whole room (together with the art-contest) for all our items. Lydia made another book ( KreARTive an art-book) and we were able to raise 5543,- Euros "fur de kinda" .(this slogan is the way how Mark Ferguson pronounced "for the children" at the auction)
For RingCon 2006 Nicole and Sabrina add up to the charity team and they present you the calendar this year.
Aside the starship foundation who get 30% every year we give the other 70% to varying children-in-need-foundations. 2006 the children´s hospice Löwenherz will get this money.
We are truly happy about all your loving help and own initiatives to help us which makes us grow every single year and helps us raising more money "fur de kinda" !
